Elagabalus, 218-222. Denarius (Silver, 19 mm, 2.86 g, 11 h), uncertain branch mint, 219. IMP CAES ANTONINVS AVG Laureate and draped bust of Elagabalus to right, seen from behind. Rev. FIDES MILITVM Fides standing front, head to right, holding vexillum in her right hand and signum in her left. BMC -. Cohen -. HJB 137 (2004), 393 (same dies). Lanz 44 (1988), 699 (same obverse die, acquired by C. Clay and now in the BM). RIC -. Unpublished in the standard references and of the highest rarity. A beautifully struck, well centered and nicely toned piece. Extremely fine.
